Great White Heron

Great White Heron, Blind Pass Beach, FL, Provia 100F

This is a white morph Great Blue Heron and it’s called “Great White Heron.” The difference between this bird and the similar looking Great Egret is the nares on the Great Blue are blue. With egrets the nares are green. This bird is also much larger, more bulky and stocky, and the shape of the head is very different from the Great Egret. It is essentially a white Great Blue Heron.
